Whale on the Thames

It’s not often one sees a whale on the Thames, but it happened this weekend. A northern bottle-nosed whale was first spotted on Friday, the first of its kind to have ever been seen. It had made its way up the river to Battersea before it stopped and struggled to make its way back down river.

As the crowds amassed on Saturday morning, curiosity was the theme for the hundreds of people lining the banks of the Thames that day. Traffic was held up as people flocked to catch a glimpse of the unexpected visitor.

However, few knew what sad fate of the whale was destined later that day. Unfortunately, the whale died on Saturday evening whilst being transported downstream to safety. A sad end to a story that captured the imagination of everyone in the city.
