Week of Hits and Misses

It has been a busy week so far, particularly with Easter coming up. But it has been full of ups and downs…

* ENGLAND, OH, ENGLAND *
It’s true that being a fan of any sport where you support England or Great Britain, it’s all too frustrating sometimes. Last weekend was end of the RBS Six Nations tournament, where rugby union World Champions, England finally signed off with a win over Scotland. Just over a year since the team’s biggest triumph, fans wondered how we got here. Fourth out of six teams, surely we can do better?

Take Wales for example, Grand Slam Champions, whitewashing the opposition and sitting pretty at the top of European rugby. England can (for once!) learn something from them. Exciting and exhilarating to watch, I really hope they continue to do well.

But whilst England’s XV were trying to save their blushes, the 7s side played well in Hong Kong for the World Cup Sevens tournament. Reaching the semi-finals, England were doing well, but were beaten by the eventual champions, Fiji, in extra time. Don’t knock Fiji though. They are a fantastic side, beating New Zealand soundly in the final to win the cup.

Well, I am a hopeful England rugby fan. And if we can manage to get back that flair that was so exciting 18 months ago, hopefully we’ll have plenty more to celebrate soon.

* WHEELER DEALER *
It was pleasing to see one of my recent cases appear in the news over the weekend and the beginning of this week. One of our private equity clients made a high profile acquisition of a company at the beginning of the week. Which meant some 6 weeks of very hard work on a commercial due diligence was really worthwhile. Based in a very interesting sector (I really do mean it), it actually was kinda fun doing the case. I can’t, unfortunately, tell you who the acquiror or target is at this point for confidentiality reasons, but I’m sure you’ll find out eventually… :)

Meanwhile, I’m currently working on another due diligence, this time in the leisure sector. Again, lots of hard work (I’m sleepy), but it’s surely worth it! Hope this client gets the winning bid.

However, it wasn’t all success this week as another result of a project I worked on for 3 months didn’t have as good a news. Well, you can’t win everything. Even Chelsea FC know that now!

* DUE NORTH *
I’m off this weekend to visit my friend Esther up north in Manchester, although I am hoping that we don’t stay there too long :P

Actually, we’ll be driving round a bit, so hopefully lots of photos to be taken!

I’ll be back after the long Easter break, so bear with me for a quiet weekend on my blog!
