Warhol speak

Happy Birthday, Sim
First up. Yesterday was Sim’s birthday. So happy birthday!

House-warmed….
Thanks to loads of people who turned up on Saturday for my housewarming party. Despite everyone compressed into one small room, my flat impressed my guests, which I’m quite happy about. Well, not that I wanted the flat to impress anybody… Otherwise, I’d have thrown the couch out!

Anyway, made some food that I was impressed with – and I didn’t, in the end, get any of them out of the recipe book. Two of the appetisers I made up. Three, I admittedly got out of a packet and heated them. But I haven’t heard back from anyone saying they had food poisoning, so I guess that’s a good sign….

One of the highlights of the party was to get some of my friends to cast opinion of my photos from Botswana. On the whole, everyone was very impressed with them. Even Sim, my harshest critic and the one I admire the opinion of the most, thought they were great. So watch this space, a few will appear here sometime soon.

Fifteen Minutes of Fame…
On one of those web forums on the web that I frequent (I’m not saying which!), one of the contributers started a thread about Andy Warhol’s ‘fifteen mintes of fame’ quote. On investigation of its roots, it turns out that our Andy was quite a witty chap and had lots to say. A few of my favourites attributed to him are below:

  • Being born is like being kidnapped. And then sold into slavery
  • I think having land and not ruining it is the most beautiful art that anybody could ever want to own
  • I’d asked around 10 or 15 people for suggestions. Finally one lady friend asked the right question, "Well, what do you love most?" That’s how I started painting money
  • They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself
  • I went to China, I didn’t want to go, and I went to see the Great Wall. You know, you read about it for years. And actually it was great. It was really, really, really great

Sometimes insight into life comes from quotes from a bright man. Guess none
will ever come from this site then… :P
