It’s about an hour as I write this before Paula Radcliffe makes a brave comeback in New York after her disappointments in the Athens Olympics. This is probably her biggest and most courageous test to date. Three months ago, she was the undisputed champion – not only unbeaten over the marathon distance, but she had broken the world record twice. Then disaster. The champion collapses. Probably the biggest setback any athlete could imagine, the mightiest heartbreak anyone striving for a dream can endure.
