It seemed like one of London’s little secrets last weekend. The Mayor Of London’s Thames Festival took place but it seemed to me as though it was very poorly publicised. I only found out about it from a road sign saying there would be road closures on the weekend.
Nonetheless, I went along, earlier on with my friend Miki, and later with another friend, Connie and her friend, Tim.
Miki was a friend from uni, in fact, I’ll admit the first girl I asked out to a ball, once upon a time. For those who are curious, no, nothing came out of it and she and I were like siblings! Anyway, Miki’s just come back to the UK to do her MBA at London Business School and it’s been some four years since I’ve seen her. Gosh, time flies by! I mean, she’s already married!
We went along to the South Bank to a spectacle of culture. Swing dance, African music and drums and several choreographed shows, it was actually pretty good, if only to see human sized pigs carrying knives and forks.
Later in the evening, Connie, Tim and I watched the Night Carnival, and after my dinner of Jambalaya from a Croele food stall, it almost started to feel like New Orleans on Mardi Gras. On a side note, I’m glad to hear that they’ll try their best to get next year’s Mardi Gras to go ahead. Good luck to everyone involved and make it a great celebration (as always!).
But the carnival itself was great. not quite like Mardi Gras (no beads), but great music and great costumes (some deliciously skimpy
) passed by. And to end, a fantastic fireworks display from the middle of the river. A great festival it was. Photos will hopefully appear here next weekend.
Hello to New Joiners
Just wanted to say hello to our new joiners at work. After two weeks of orientation (it was hard for me too), we had a great dinner and celebration at the end of it all. Hope you all have a fantastic time at L.E.K.
Happy Birthday, Shen Lei
Usual message to anyone I know who has a birthday. If you’re not a Man Utd fan, happy birthday! If you are, haha!
