… no, not until Christmas, although it is still relevant. No, it’s time to count down to my departure from my current job. Yes, nearly four and a half years I shall no longer be a “strategy consultant” and will be joining the UK’s telecoms and media regulator in January.
It is with a tinge of sadness that I leave L.E.K. Consulting. Not least because some people I have cold called in other companies have asked whether it was my own firm. (I wish.) And of course the people around me, particularly my ‘pod’ at work (Ben, Rodolphe, Vincent, Helia, Mikhail, Colin).
My departure is well known amongst at least half the office (my own stupid mistake ensured that!). The partners at L.E.K. have all been supportive (well, all of them that I’ve spoken to, of course) and so far it’s been regarded as a good ‘career move’.
But aside from all the tinges of sadness, I am excited to be going to Ofcom to work in an industry I’ve always wanted to work in since I was tiny. I’ll be part of a good and humoured team and I’m in an exciting, fast moving industry. Can’t ask for more.
So, here I am, counting the last two weeks to my farewell. I tried to look for a nice relevant quotation to put here, but this nice one caught my eye instead. Not quite my feelings, but it’s quite sweet.
“So I stop one day to figure it out,
I’ll quit my job without a shadow of a doubt,
To sing the blues that I know about,
My life is just a slow train crawling up a hill.”
- Crawling Up A Hill, Katie Melua
