From the Producers
Liang Zhu Drama is a group of students at Oxford University interested in Chinese drama. This coming term we intend to produce the Butterfly Lovers - and seek your generous support towards this highly cultural play. Let me first introduce the play more fully.
The play is based on a 17th century Chinese legend. It has been performed many times in China, and was recently produced as a film, which was a great success throughout all Chinese-speaking countries. This time, we'd like to translate it into English to share this dramatic legend with people from different backgrounds.
The audience we are targeting is mainly Oxford students (both graduates and undergraduates). We believe that we can provoke great interest both from Asian students and students doing related subjects, e.g. Oriental studies. However, we still want to attract as many students as possible, which we intend to do through extensive publicity within the University of Oxford. We will also be contacting Cambridge, LSE, SOAS, Oxford Brookes and other related institutions. We believe that contacting such a large group will ensure very good ticket sales.
We intend to produce this play in the week ending Saturday May 19th. We have approximately 25 experienced members in our production committee, backstage crew, and cast.
We would be very grateful if you would consider sponsoring this play. I have enclosed a copy of our sponsorship package for your reference. The potential for The Butterfly Lovers in Oxford is very high, and we hope it will realize that full potential here in Oxford.
Please feel free to contact either Siran Lu or Annie Chou, co-producers. We would be happy to provide more information and to discuss this play with you in greater detail.
My thanks in advance for your help and we look forward to hearing from you.
Yours truly,
